Job Description

Technical writer/editor position for undergraduate student available at Applied Research Laboratories, The University of Texas at Austin (ARL:UT). Student will work with full-time staff to provide assistance in writing, maintaining, and preparing technical documentations for high frequency active sonar systems. Student will be responsible for writing, editing, and maintaining internal style guides, wikis, and other technical documents as needed. Student may assist in supporting graphic design, photography, and videography for internal publication.

Most ARL:UT undergraduate student positions have flexible work hours, with as few as 10-15 hours per standard work week generally being acceptable during long semesters, and with additional flexibility in consideration of a student's academic obligations such as tests and final exams. Many students who work at ARL do so throughout their academic careers, working part time during the long semesters and full time during the summer semesters.

For ARL:UT Students who meet certain academic and work hour requirements.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.
  • Overall GPA of at least 3.0 is expected.
  • Current enrollment in a degree program in writing, communications, or other related field.
  • Position requires strong organization skills and focus, an ability to learn new or unfamiliar software, including but not limited to Madcap Flare, Adobe Photoshop, and Gitlab.
